Urban Meyer was born to Bud and Gisela parents on July 10, 1964, in Toledo, Ohio. Meyer and his two sisters, Gigi and Erika, spent most of their childhood growing up in Ashtabula, a small town in Ohio.

Meyer attended Saint John High School in Ashtabula where he played varsity baseball. Shortly after graduation, Meyer was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 13th round of the 1982 MLB draft.
