Jake Burton Carpenter was born on April 29th, 1954 in Manhattan, New York City, USA She lost her mother, Katherine, in 1971 to Leukemia. Jake had a brother, Corporal George Carpenter, who died serving in Vietnam on February 17, 1967. He grew up living with his father and two sisters.

For her academic details, she studied at Brooks School North Andover. Later, he attended Marvelwood School. After graduating from school, he joined the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was about to join the University ski team, however, he was unable to join the team after being involved in a car accident.

She died on November 20, 2019, from a recurring cancer.
