Not to Subside Corona Virus Outbreak, A Chinese Citizen Died Due to Hantavirus

Amid an outbreak of a new corona virus or Covid-19 that is increasing in parts of the world, a man in China is reported to have died of a hantavirus.According to local media reports quoted by Anadolu Agency, the victims came from the southwestern region of Yunan Province, China.Subsequent reports mention the victim’s last breath while on her way home to work in Shandong.

The victim reportedly boarded a chartered bus last Monday,” the report wrote. As a result of the incident, as many as 32 other passengers on the bus were reported to undergo screening tests. However, information about the screening test was not disclosed to the public.

What is Hantavirus?

Many are curious about this new type of virus called hantavirus. Hantavirus is not a new type of virus.Hantavirus has actually been reported for the first time in the United States in 1993 ago. This virus is transmitted to humans through rodents or rodents such as mice.Hantavirus is different from the outbreak of COVID-19 which shows symptoms such as coughing, fever and shortness of breath.

People infected with hantavirus can experience fatigue, headaches, and muscle aches. There have been no reports of transmission of this virus from human to human except in Argentina in 1996.Disease Control and Prevention in the US suspects that strains of hantavirus in South America can be transmitted from human to human.

Wuhan Research: Blood Type A Likely More Vulnerable to Corona Virus

An early study in China showed people with blood type A might be more susceptible to new corona virus. Meanwhile, people with blood type O may be more resistant to the virus with the official name Covid-19.The study was conducted by a medical team in China of 2,000 positive patients infected with the new corona virus in Wuhan, which was the beginning of a pandemic center, and Shenzhen. The study found that blood type A patients showed higher infection rates and tended to experience more severe symptoms. However, the researchers stressed that this research was still preliminary and further studies needed to be done.

They urged the Bamboo Curtain State government and medical facilities to consider differences in blood type when planning mitigation measures or treating patients infected with Covid-19.“People with blood type A may need to specifically strengthen immunity to reduce the chance of infection,” wrote researchers led by Wang Xinghuan, quoted from the South China Morning Post , Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Patients infected (the virus that causes Covid-19) with blood type A may need to receive more vigilant

Patients infected with Sars-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) with blood type A may need to receive more vigilant supervision and aggressive treatment,” Wang wrote. In contrast, acco     rding to the paper they published at on March 11, “blood type O has a significantly lower risk of communicable diseases compared to non-blood type blood vessels.”Of the 206 patients who died from Covid-19 in Wuhan, 85 were blood type A. That figure was 63 percent more than patients with blood type O, which number 52. This pattern occurs in different age groups and genders.

The study was conducted by scientists and doctors from cities throughout China, including Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai and Shenzhen. However, this study has not been reviewed by other research groups. The researchers also warned of the possible risks of using interim study results as a guide for current clinical practice.Gao Yingdai, a researcher from the State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology in Tianjin, who was not involved in the study said that this finding could be improved by adding a larger sample size.

Although the number of 2,000 patients involved in the sample is arguably not small, the number is still small compared to the total number of patients infected by the new corona virus, whose number worldwide is now more than 180,000.According to Gao, another limitation of this research is that it does not provide a clear explanation of the phenomenon, such as molecular interactions between viruses and various types of red blood cells.

Who Blood type is determined by

Blood type is determined by antigens, a material on the surface of red blood cells that can trigger an immune response. Austrian biologist Karl Landsteiner discovered the main blood type in 1901, calling it types A, B, AB and O. This discovery made it possible for safe blood transfusion by matching the patient’s blood type.Blood type varies in a population. In the United States, about 44 percent of the population is type O, while around 41 percent belong to type A.

In Wuhan, which has a population of around 11 million, people have blood type O by 32 percent, while A is 34 percent among healthy people. While among patients infected with Covid-19, around 38 and 25 percent.According to previous studies, differences in blood type have been observed in other infectious diseases, including Norwalk virus, hepatitis B, and acute respiratory syndrome (Sars).

Gao said the new study, “might help medical professionals, but ordinary citizens should not take statistics too seriously.”“If you have blood type A, there is no need to panic. That does not mean you will be infected 100 percent,” he said.”If there is type O, that doesn’t mean you are also really safe. You still need to wash your hands and follow the guidelines issued by the authorities,” Gao added.
